How to access data now that the password is gone

I work for a non-profit organization that uses MySQL to collect volunteer names and hours. Volunteers log in and out on a laptop  in our lobby and I know that all of the info resides there. I watched the tutorial video on this site and discovered how to collect the data, but it looks like I need a password. Unfortunately, the person that originally set up MySQL was let go and has not been in contact with our organization.

How do I change the password and/or retrieve the info at this point? Is there a number I can call to explain and have it changed remotely? Is there a "I forgot my password" retrieval system? Is there a way to collect the data without a password?

You will need local root access to the MySQL server. On a Windows system, this means that you will need to log in as an administrator.

Once you have that, carefully follow the instructions on the web at:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/resetting-permissions.html

These instructions have helped me reset root passwords so that I could make changes in the past. If it's too technical, you will need to call in some help from a MySQL expert.
