Can't Execute SQL queries

Hello Everyone,
I'm a new user to Toad and I'm facing a problem that I can't execute mySQL queries, the option is disabled from the Editor Menu.. Is there something I must do before? Do I have to connect to a mySQL server? if so how can I create a dummy one on my PC?
To sum up I have a .sql file with many databases and I just want to extract one of them to another file..
