Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts.

HI I am using Windows 7 64-bit, trying to make a connection using Toad MY-SQL

Providing the following details:

Username: root
Password: password
Connection Type: TCP
Host: localhost
Port: 3306

Didn't provide any database name. I got the following error -"Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts". Any help is appreciated.
